Who We Are
North Main Credit Union was first chartered in December 1978 as Lumite Credit Association on the credit union principle of "people helping people." Lumite Credit Association was established to provide a convenient place for employees of the Lumite plant and their families to save and borrow. Interestingly, one of the original subscribers of Lumite Credit Association, Gay Bramlett, still serves on our board today.
On Jan. 1, 1980, Ethicon, Inc. assumed control of the plant and it was renamed to Ethicon, Inc., a division of Johnson and Johnson. The management of Ethicon agreed to continue to sponsor the credit union and the credit union's name was changed to Ethicon Credit Union, serving Ethicon associates, retirees and their families.
In 2016, we moved off-site to 255 North Main St. in downtown Cornelia, Georgia and changed our name to North Main Credit Union. This has allowed us to better serve all credit union members and has provided upgraded facilities including improved parking and expanded services. Throughout our history, we are proud to have existed solely for the purpose of serving our members' best interests and providing substantial savings through our products and services.
A volunteer board of directors administers North Main Credit Union. Their responsibilities include setting policies, approving budgets and other board functions that help guide the credit union’s future. The board of directors are credit union members who are elected by the membership and serve without pay.
To join the credit union, simply open a savings account with a minimum deposit of $25 and a non-refundable membership fee of $5.00.
North Main Credit Union offers the utmost in security to our members. Accounts are insured up to $250,000 through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U. S. government agency.
